The German steamship Prinzess Irene carried thousands of passengers between Europe and America from 1900 to 1914. Many of them were immigrants starting new lives.
During World War I, the United States took control of Prinzess Irene, renamed it Pocahontas, and used it as a troop transport.
After the war, Pocahontas resumed commercial service, sailing under the names Bremen and Karlsruhe. Its adventures continued until 1932.
Our mission is to collect, share and celebrate the stories of our immigrant ancestors, and many others, who made a journey on the Prinzess Irene.
